Tried By The Word Of God

What Are You Laughing At?

Sara laughed. I have always loved that story, I have always heard that laugh, there by the oaks of Mamre. There is a woman who takes God seriously. There is a woman who expects God to pay attention to the practical problems of her life. Pack up my tents and follow you? Sure. But a baby? Are you crazy, God? Scripture tells us that Sara laughed at the Lord. But "at the set time" and "in due season", Sara gave birth to a blessing for her people. They called the baby "Isaac"--which can be translated both as "she laughed" or as "he laughed." Because, of course, when you laugh at the Lord, when you laugh at Jesus, the Lord laughs back. And then, who knows what will follow.

Holding On To The Promises Of God

f you have trouble of any kind in your life, God wants you "through faith and patience" to "inherit the promises" (Hebrews 6:12). A lot of times are circumstances indicate that we have failed to receive God's promises as yet. If God makes a promise, He will keep it. Second Peter 3:9 says, "The Lord is not slack concerning his promise." The word "slack" means that there is no gap between God's promise and the fulfillment. As He says it, it happens. It is true because of His nature. In his opening statement to Titus, Paul said, "In hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before the world began". We need to get our mind on the end result, ignoring if need be discouraging circumstances that speak of hopelessness, and speak God's Word out with conviction.
